First-time setup — two places, one workflow

Most confusion comes from mixing up phoneforge.net (this website) with localhost (your computer). They are different — and that’s intentional.

You’re on phoneforge.net right now

This page handles accounts, downloads, and billing. It does not show your phone’s photos, apps, or files. Those appear only at localhost:8742/d on the Mac or PC where the USB cable plugs in.

phoneforge.net vs localhost — at a glance

phoneforge.net (this site)localhost:8742/d (USB computer)
Shows live phone data✗ No✓ Yes — while PhoneForge is running
Works in your phone’s browser✓ Yes — sign up & download✗ No — use the USB PC’s browser
Needs PhoneForge app running✗ No✓ Yes — launcher must stay open (Windows: black window)
USB cable required✗ No✓ Yes — phone plugged into that computer
Same URL for everyone?✓ Yes — one public website✓ Same address, but each person’s localhost is their own machine
Step 1 · Any device

🌐 phoneforge.net

Sign up, log in, download the app, manage billing. Works from your phone, tablet, or any computer.

  • Create account
  • Download for Mac / Windows / Linux
  • Read help & pricing

Does not show live phone data by itself.

Step 2 · USB computer only

🖥️ Your Mac or PC

The computer where the charging cable plugs in. Double-click PhoneForge and leave it running (Windows: keep the black window open).

  • PhoneForge app / launcher
  • USB cable → phone
  • Data stays on this machine
Step 3 · Bookmark this

localhost is a normal address that always means “this computer.” It only works on the machine running PhoneForge — not on your phone, not at a friend’s house.

Same link on every USB PC — but each person’s localhost is their own machine.

What “localhost” means (no jargon)

Think of it like a door that only exists inside your house. localhost:8742/d is the door to PhoneForge on whichever computer is running the app. When you type it in Chrome or Safari on that same computer, you see your dashboard. If you type it on your iPhone or on a different laptop, it won’t work — that’s expected, not a bug.

What are you trying to do?

I signed up — where is my dashboard?

Step 1 (here) is done. Next: on the USB computer, download PhoneForge, run the launcher, then open localhost:8742/d in that computer’s browser and log in with the same email.

localhost won’t open on my phone

That’s normal. localhost always means “this device.” Your phone’s browser looks at the phone itself — PhoneForge isn’t running there. Use the USB Mac/PC browser instead, or Pro Remote Connect for a read-only link from another device.

I downloaded but don’t see my phone

Check: (1) PhoneForge launcher still running, (2) you’re on localhost:8742/d on the USB PC — not phoneforge.net, (3) phone unlocked with a data USB cable, (4) you tapped Trust or Allow USB debugging.

I’m on a different computer than the USB one

You can sign in here on any device, but phone control only works where the cable is plugged in. Install and run PhoneForge on that machine, or use Remote Connect (Pro) to view stats from elsewhere.

Your first-time checklist

1

Sign up here

On phoneforge.net — takes a minute, no card.

2

Download on the USB PC

On the Mac or PC that will have the cable — not on the phone. Pick your OS →

3

Run the launcher

Mac: open from Applications. Windows: CLICK HERE TO START.bat. Wait until the browser opens.

4

Log in on localhost

Use the same email in the dashboard browser tab. Bookmark localhost:8742/d.

5

Plug in & trust

Unlock the phone, use a data USB cable, tap Trust (iPhone) or Allow USB debugging (Android).

6

Each day after

Start PhoneForge on the USB PC → open your bookmark. If nothing loads, the app isn’t running yet.

⚠️ Common mistakes

  • Opening localhost on your phone — won’t work. Use the USB computer’s browser (or Pro Remote Connect from another device).
  • Expecting phoneforge.net to show phone files — the live dashboard is always local. This site is accounts + downloads only.
  • Closing the Windows black window — that stops PhoneForge. Minimize it instead.
  • Installing on the wrong computer — install where the cable plugs in, not on a machine miles away.
  • Charge-only cable — some cables power the phone but don’t transfer data. Try another cable or port.

Download PhoneForge

PhoneForge installs on your computer (laptop or desktop) — not on your phone. Use the same computer you plug your phone into with a USB cable. Confused about localhost? Read the first-time setup guide first (3 minutes).

🧭 New to computers? Start here

“USB computer” means the Mac or PC that has the charging cable plugged into it. If your iPhone is plugged into your home laptop, install PhoneForge on that laptop. This website (phoneforge.net) is only for signing up and downloading — your phone’s data stays on your computer after that.

You will need: internet for the first download, a free account, a USB cable (the one that charges your phone), and about 5–10 minutes. No Terminal or coding skills required on Mac; Windows needs one extra free program (Python 3.12) — steps below.

  1. Create a free account on this website (any phone, tablet, or computer)
  2. On the USB computer, pick your system below — Mac, Windows, or Linux
  3. Click the blue Download button and save the file (usually goes to your Downloads folder)
  4. Open the downloaded file and follow the step-by-step list in that card
  5. When your web browser opens, log in with the same email and password you used to sign up
  6. Plug in your phone with the USB cable, unlock it, and tap Trust / Allow if the phone asks
  7. Bookmark localhost:8742/d on that computer — that’s your dashboard link every time
🍎

macOS

For MacBook, iMac, Mac mini · iPhone works great · Android optional

Download .dmg 536 KB

Step-by-step (Mac)

  1. Click Download .dmg above. When Safari or Chrome asks, choose Save or Allow download.
  2. Open Finder (smiley face icon in the dock) → Downloads → double-click PhoneForge-mac.dmg.
  3. A window opens with the PhoneForge icon. Drag PhoneForge to Applications (folder on the right).
  4. Open Applications (Finder → Applications, or +Shift+A) and find PhoneForge.
  5. First time only: right-click PhoneForge → Open → click Open again. (This is normal for apps outside the App Store.) After that, double-click works.
  6. Wait 1–2 minutes — a small window may show “installing.” Your web browser will open by itself when ready.
  7. Log in with your PhoneForge email and password. Plug in your phone. On iPhone, tap Trust This Computer and enter your passcode.

Stuck? Make sure you’re on the Mac that has the USB cable — not phoneforge.net alone. Full guide: Mac install page.

❓ Common beginner questions

  • Where did my download go? Usually the Downloads folder. Mac: Finder → Downloads. Windows: folder icon on the taskbar or File Explorer → Downloads.
  • Do I install this on my phone? No — only on the computer the USB cable plugs into.
  • Can I use phoneforge.net as my dashboard? No. After install, your dashboard is localhost:8742/d on that same computer while PhoneForge is running.
  • Do I need to pay first? No — sign up free, download, and try the dashboard. Subscribe later if you want Pro features.
  • What’s a .dmg / .zip / .bat? .dmg = Mac installer image. .zip = compressed folder (Windows/Linux). .bat = “start PhoneForge” button on Windows.
  • Nothing happens when I plug in my phone? Unlock the phone, use a data-capable USB cable (not charge-only), and accept the Trust or USB debugging prompt on the phone screen.

Dashboard is overview + remote view links. Download for your OS, double-click the launcher, plug in a phone, and open localhost:8742/d.

Honest Limitations

We don't overpromise. Here's exactly what PhoneForge can and cannot do — by platform and by Apple's/Android's security rules.

🤖 Android (with USB Debugging)

  • Full device info, settings control, app management
  • WiFi password retrieval (varies by Android version)
  • Screenshots, reboot, file browsing, text input
  • App/website passwords are NOT accessible (encrypted vault)
  • Requires Developer Options + USB Debugging enabled

🍎 iPhone (with Trust enabled)

  • Device info, installed apps, linked Apple ID
  • Reboot, shutdown, limited file access (AFC)
  • Screenshots require Developer Mode (iOS 17+)
  • Cannot change WiFi, brightness, or most settings
  • Keychain passwords permanently locked by Apple
  • No jailbreak required — works on stock iOS

🔒 Why we can't show app passwords

Both Google and Apple store website/app passwords in hardware-encrypted vaults. No legitimate USB tool can read them — and any tool claiming otherwise is lying or requires a jailbreak/root. PhoneForge shows you everything that's actually accessible and explains what's locked.

Jailbreak Wizard — how it works

Premium only. PhoneForge does not jailbreak phones from this website or our cloud. The Jailbreak Wizard runs on your USB computer inside the local dashboard (localhost:8742/d) and orchestrates third-party tools for supported device + OS combinations only.

✅ What the Wizard does

  • Reads model, chip family, and OS version over USB
  • Recommends the best matching tool for that exact phone
  • Auto-runs palera1n (checkm8 iPhones, iOS 15–17) and checkra1n (iOS 12–14) on Mac/Linux when compatible
  • Runs an Android Magisk wizard — bootloader diagnostics, fastboot checks, and step-by-step root guidance
  • Shows manual steps for Dopamine, TrollStore, and KernelSU when auto-run isn’t possible
  • Re-checks elevation after success and unlocks elevated tools (protected files, processes, etc.)

❌ What it cannot do

  • No universal jailbreak — there is no one-click solution for every iPhone or Android
  • Not from phoneforge.net — the website handles accounts & billing only; USB tools run locally
  • iPhone 11 and newer (A12+) — no full auto-jailbreak; manual Dopamine/TrollStore paths only
  • Windows — palera1n auto-download/run is Mac/Linux only (use manual guides or WSL)
  • Stock iOS — cannot write system files until a third-party exploit succeeds
  • Android — Magisk still requires unlocking bootloader, patching boot.img, and flashing (data wipe risk)
  • Semi-tethered — palera1n/checkra1n must be re-run after many reboots
ToolDevicesPhoneForge automation
palera1ncheckm8 iPhones (6s → X), iOS 15–17✅ Download + run locally (Mac/Linux, may need sudo)
checkra1ncheckm8 devices, iOS 12–14✅ Run if installed on your Mac/Linux
Dopaminearm64e (A12+), select iOS 15–16.x⚠️ Manual — sideload IPA on device
TrollStoreSupported iOS 14–16.6 builds⚠️ Manual — version-specific install
MagiskUnlockable Android✅ Wizard — diagnostics + guided flash steps
KernelSUSupported kernels/devices⚠️ Manual — external guides

⚠️ Risks & responsibility

Jailbreaking or rooting voids warranties, can brick your device, breaks banking/enterprise apps, and may prevent OTA updates. PhoneForge runs community tools at your direction — you accept full responsibility for data loss, damage, and legal compliance. We only run tools when your device matches the compatibility matrix; unsupported combos are blocked with external guide links.

Requires Premium, explicit risk acknowledgment in the dashboard, and a phone plugged into the same computer running PhoneForge.

Setup Guide

OS-specific install steps. New here? Read First-time setup first — it explains localhost in plain language.

Install on your computer (where the phone plugs in)

“USB computer” = the Mac or PC with the USB cable attached to the phone — not phoneforge.net. If you plug your phone into this Mac, this Mac is your USB computer. Mac/Linux need Python 3.8+; Windows needs Python 3.12 (direct installer). Pick your OS:

  1. Download PhoneForge-mac.dmg (or .app zip).
  2. Open the .dmg and drag PhoneForge to Applications.
  3. First launch: right-click PhoneForge → Open → click Open (bypasses “unidentified developer”). After that, double-click normally.
  4. First run installs dependencies (1–2 min), then opens your browser.
  5. Requires Python 3.8+ on your Mac (python3 --version in Terminal). macOS usually includes it.
  6. Bookmark http://localhost:8742/d on the USB computer — each user’s link points at their own machine.
  7. Android on Mac: install ADB with brew install android-platform-tools (optional if you only use iPhone).
  8. iPhone on Mac: plug in, unlock, tap Trust This Computer. iOS works out of the box on macOS.
  9. Advanced: unzip PhoneForge-mac.app.zip and run python3 phoneforge.py install then python3 phoneforge.py start in Terminal.
  1. Download PhoneForge-Windows-v2.zip (right-click zip → Properties → check Unblock if shown → OK).
  2. Install Python 3.12 (phoneforge.net/python312) — check “Add python.exe to PATH”. Newer versions (3.13, 3.14) do not work.
  3. Right-click zip → Extract All (e.g. Desktop). Keep the whole folder — do not copy only .bat files elsewhere.
  4. Double-click CLICK HERE TO START.bat in the extracted folder. First run installs dependencies (1–2 min), then opens your browser.
  5. Stuck? Run PhoneForge-Help.bat — it saves a troubleshooting report to your Desktop.
  6. Keep PhoneForge running while your phone is plugged in. Logs: %LOCALAPPDATA%\PhoneForge\
  7. Bookmark http://localhost:8742/d in your browser.
  8. Android: install Android Platform Tools and add adb to your PATH.
  9. iPhone: install iTunes or Apple Devices app so Windows can see the phone over USB. Full iOS features work best on Mac.
  10. Advanced: run python phoneforge.py install then python phoneforge.py start in PowerShell, or double-click PhoneForge.bat.
  1. Install dependencies (Debian/Ubuntu example):
    sudo apt update && sudo apt install -y python3 python3-pip lsof android-tools-adb
  2. Download PhoneForge-Linux.zip and unzip.
  3. Make the launcher executable:
    chmod +x PhoneForge
    Or right-click → Properties → Permissions → Allow executing.
  4. Double-click PhoneForge (or run ./PhoneForge). First launch installs dependencies, then opens your browser.
  5. Bookmark http://localhost:8742/d. Logs: ~/.local/share/PhoneForge/logs/
  6. iPhone on Linux: limited — Android is fully supported. Use a Mac for best iOS experience.
  7. Advanced: run python3 phoneforge.py install then python3 phoneforge.py start, or use ./launch.sh.

FAQ

Does PhoneForge upload my photos or messages?

No. Photos, files, messages, screenshots, and live device stats stay on the USB computer where PhoneForge runs. They travel phone → USB cable → your PC — not to our cloud. We only store account info (email, plan, device IDs). See the full Privacy & local-first breakdown.

Is PhoneForge safe?

Yes. PhoneForge is designed to be transparent and local-first: the app runs on your computer, phone data stays on that machine, and this website uses HTTPS via Cloudflare. We don’t upload your photos, messages, or files to our servers. See what stays local vs cloud. You can verify the public site with independent security scanners:

Always download from https://phoneforge.net or install guide. Your live dashboard runs at localhost:8742 on the USB computer — not on our cloud.

How do I download PhoneForge?

Go to phoneforge.net/#download or install guide and pick your OS: Mac .dmg, Windows zip (install Python 3.12 first, then double-click CLICK HERE TO START.bat), or Linux zip (double-click PhoneForge). Each launcher installs on first run and opens localhost:8742/d.

Windows install not working?

Download PhoneForge-Windows-v2.zip, unblock the zip in Properties, extract the full folder, install Python 3.12 (direct link) with Add to PATH (not 3.14), then run CLICK HERE TO START.bat. Still stuck? Run PhoneForge-Help.bat — it writes PhoneForge-Help.txt to your Desktop with install logs you can send to support.

Do I need to install PhoneForge on every computer?

Only on the computer where the phone plugs in via USB. Sign up and log in work from any browser on phoneforge.net — no install needed for that. Each user runs PhoneForge on their own PC or Mac; your phone never connects through someone else’s laptop.

What’s the difference between launch.sh and expose.sh?

launch.sh (or start) runs PhoneForge locally at localhost:8742. expose.sh (or start --public) does that plus creates a free HTTPS link so you can open the dashboard from another phone or PC. Use --public unless you only need same-WiFi access.

What is localhost? Why can’t I open it on my phone?

localhost always means “this computer.” Your dashboard at localhost:8742/d only works in a browser on the same Mac or PC that is running PhoneForge with the USB cable. It is not a public website like phoneforge.net. See the first-time setup guide for a full walkthrough.

What is the official website URL?

https://phoneforge.net is the public site (accounts, pricing, docs). Your personal dashboard is always localhost:8742/d on the machine with the USB cable — install and run PhoneForge there after you sign up.

Login says “request failed” — what do I do?

Login uses the cloud API at https://api.phoneforge.net — not your laptop. If login fails, the API may still be starting up; wait a minute and hard-refresh (Cmd+Shift+R). You do not need PhoneForge running locally to create an account. After login, install PhoneForge on your USB computer to control a phone.

What’s free vs Pro vs Premium?

See the full comparison table for every feature. Short version: Free = browse all panels + screenshot/reboot/shutdown + Phone Care basics (view-only controls). Pro ($5/mo+) = full controls, mirror, credentials, exports, macros, remote links — 4 phones. Premium ($10/mo+) = bench reports, compare, schedules, Jailbreak Wizard — up to 10 phones.

Does PhoneForge jailbreak my phone from the website?

No. This website (phoneforge.net) never jailbreaks or roots devices. The Jailbreak Wizard is a Premium feature inside the local dashboard on the computer where your phone is plugged in via USB. It scans compatibility and runs third-party tools (like palera1n) only for supported device + OS pairs. See Jailbreak Wizard — how it works for full limits.

Which iPhones can the Jailbreak Wizard auto-jailbreak?

Full automation targets checkm8 devices (iPhone 6s through iPhone X) on supported iOS versions — primarily via palera1n (iOS 15–17) or checkra1n (iOS 12–14) on Mac/Linux. iPhone 11 and newer are not auto-jailbroken; the Wizard shows manual paths (Dopamine, TrollStore) instead. There is no universal jailbreak for all models. Details: compatibility table.

Are WiFi passwords saved to my account?

No. WiFi data is read live from the phone plugged into the USB computer. It is never stored on our servers or synced across your browsers.

Can I log in on multiple devices at once?

Yes. Each browser keeps its own session. Log in on your laptop, phone, and tablet — all can view the dashboard while PhoneForge runs on the USB computer.

PhoneForge stopped — what now?

PhoneForge stops when you quit the launcher or close its background process on your USB computer. Double-click the app again (Mac/Windows/Linux) or run python3 phoneforge.py start. Your cloud account is unchanged.

Can I customize the look and feel?

Yes — click the ⚙️ button in the nav or dashboard to open Preferences. Choose dark/light/system theme, accent colors, font size, auto-refresh interval, privacy options, and more. Settings are saved in your browser.

What “view-only” means on Free

You can open every tab — Dashboard, Apps, Files, Settings, Bench, Tools — and see real data from a plugged-in phone. Locked actions show a clear upgrade prompt. Screenshot, reboot, and shutdown always work on Free. iPhone has Apple-imposed limits on some controls even on paid plans — we label those in the dashboard.

Privacy & local-first — everything phone-related stays on your computer

PhoneForge is not a cloud phone-backup service. Your photos, messages, files, screenshots, and live device stats travel over the USB cable to your Mac or PC — not through our servers. We built it that way on purpose.

🔒 The short promise

Phone data never uploads to PhoneForge cloud. The app runs on the USB computer, reads your phone over the cable, and shows results in your browser at localhost:8742. When you quit PhoneForge, that live session ends on your machine. We don’t run a hidden copy of your camera roll in the cloud.

🖥️ Stays on your USB computer

Read live from the phone over USB — processed and displayed locally.

  • Photos, videos & files you browse
  • Screenshots you take
  • Messages & notifications (Android)
  • Battery, storage, RAM & device info
  • WiFi networks & accounts (what USB allows)
  • Bench reports & backup ZIPs you export
  • Phone Care diagnostic results

Path: Phone → USB cable → your PC → browser on that PC.

🌐 Goes to PhoneForge cloud (accounts only)

Small account & billing records — not your phone’s personal content.

  • Email & hashed password (login)
  • Subscription plan & payment status
  • Registered device IDs & nicknames
  • Login activity (audit trail)
  • Stripe handles card payments — we never see full card numbers

Path: Browser → https://api.phoneforge.net for auth & billing only.

How data actually moves

  1. phoneforge.net — you sign up and download. No phone is connected here; we only see account info.
  2. PhoneForge app on your USB PC — talks to the phone over USB using Apple/Google’s normal device protocols.
  3. Your browser at localhost:8742 — the dashboard UI loads from the app on the same computer. Stats and files you see never round-trip through phoneforge.net.
  4. Optional Remote Connect (Pro) — you can share a read-only view link so someone else sees the dashboard. The phone must still be plugged into your USB computer; we don’t host a copy of your data.

✅ What we don’t do

  • Upload your camera roll or messages to our servers
  • Sell or share phone data with advertisers
  • Require cloud backup to use the dashboard
  • Read app passwords from iPhone Keychain or Android vault
  • Run phone tools from phoneforge.net without local install

⚠️ What you should know

  • Physical access: anyone with your USB computer while PhoneForge is running can use the dashboard — same as any local app.
  • Remote view links: Pro feature — share carefully; revoke anytime in the dashboard.
  • Public tunnel (--public): advanced — exposes your local dashboard URL; phone still must be on that PC.
  • Advisor AI: text questions go to our API for answers — not bulk phone file uploads.
